Effective June 1, 2021
As COVID-19 cases across the region drop, more people get vaccinated, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia ease indoor capacity related restrictions, effective Tuesday, June 1, 2021 the pandemic related limits on the number of customers allowed on all SEPTA vehicles will be removed.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mandate and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) requirements concerning wearing a mask/face covering on SEPTA vehicles and in stations remain in effect.
This decision is part of our on-going efforts to support the region's recovery as businesses and government agencies announce return to office plans for employees, students resume in person classes, and capacity limits are eased for stores and restaurants. With the health and safety of our customers and employees a top priority, we continue to take the following actions:
- SEPTA vehicles are well ventilated - air changes occur on every vehicle every two to three minutes, adhering to CDC recommendations. This far exceeds recommendations for indoor places like restaurants, where health officials say outside air should circulate once an hour
- SEPTA is upgrading to high-efficiency cabin air filters on vehicles. Filters are changed on a regular basis in accordance with vehicle system testing and reliability recommendations.
- SEPTA cleans vehicles daily. Additionally, vehicles receive an intense detailed heavy cleaning every 10 days.
- SEPTA follows TSA and CDC mandates and guidelines that require customers to wear a mask or face covering when traveling on public transportation and continues to educate riders about proper mask wearing through events, posters, and signage
SEPTA recently launched a new tool that offers customers Seat Availability information for buses. This trip planning resource also provides a snapshot of the number of seats and riders on a given vehicle. In the coming months this feature will be expanded to cover all modes of service including the Market Frankford, Broad Street and Norristown Lines, Regional Rail and Trolleys.
In addition to wearing a mask, we continue to urge riders to practice safe hygiene to stop the spread of germs. This includes:
- Washing hands frequently and thoroughly - before and after riding
- Using hand sanitizer and limit touching surfaces
- Avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth
- Covering mouth when you cough or sneeze
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
- Refraining from entering SEPTA's stations or riding our vehicles if you have a cough, fever or do not feel well
Getting to the Esperanza Community Vaccination Clinic
The Esperanza Community Vaccination Clinic at the Esperanza Academy Charter School is located at 4261 N. 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140 in the Hunting Park neighborhood in North Philadelphia. Effective Wednesday, May 26, 2021 the Jefferson Station 12 & Filbert doors will be open the following hours:
Monday-Friday 6;30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
These doors will be CLOSED at all other times
The 10 & Filbert Doors are open 7 days a week during the service day
Service on the Cynwyd Line remains suspended. SEPTA | Regional Rail Schedules
Beginning June 1, 2021 the waiting areas and restrooms at outlying Regional Rail Stations offering SEPTA Key Sales will reopen during Sales window hours. At all other times, the Station Office facility will be closed.

For the safety of customers to ensure that social distancing can be maintained, the SEPTA Key Senior and Reduce Fare Card Processing Center at 1234 Market Street will not be open for in-person service at this time. The Key Card Processing Center at the Accessible Travel Center at Suburban Station remains CLOSED
